About the university
Adelaide University is South Australia's new public university. It opened in 2026, formed by bringing together the University of Adelaide, a Group of Eight university founded in 1874, and the University of South Australia, founded in 1991. The new university inherits the research record of both, including the University of Adelaide's strengths in medicine, agriculture, wine science, engineering and physical sciences, and UniSA's industry-linked courses in IT, health, business and design. It is ranked 79th in the world by QS and =141st by Times Higher Education in 2027.
Because it is new, Adelaide University has redesigned its degree list for 2026 and 2027 entry. Many courses keep familiar names, such as the Master of Data Science, Master of Computer Science and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), while others are new combinations, such as the Master of Information Technology with specialisations in Computing and Innovation, Cyber Security or Applied Artificial Intelligence. Some degrees are taught across two campuses, for example City and Mawson Lakes.
Adelaide is a calm, affordable city of about 1.4 million people with beaches, hills and wine regions close by. It is usually cheaper than Sydney and Melbourne, and South Australia's growing defence, space and technology industries create demand for engineering and IT skills. Studying in Adelaide can also count towards extra post-study work time for regional study.
For Indian students, Adelaide University publishes Class 12 entry scores for CBSE/CISCE and state boards on its bachelor's degree pages, and its 2027 master's fees are around A$52,000–57,000 a year. Its top scholarship gives 50% off tuition for students with outstanding results.
