MBBS abroad, with the eligibility questions answered first

We advise on English-medium medical programmes in Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and the Philippines. Our first conversation is always about whether a programme lets your child return and practise in India.

Eligibility and recognition

A foreign medical degree does not automatically let a student practise in India. The National Medical Commission sets the conditions, and they apply to the programme as a whole, including its duration, language and internship.

We check each programme against these conditions with you, and we encourage every family to verify them independently on the NMC website before paying fees.

Read the parents' checklist

Check these before you pay any fees

Summary of the key conditions in the National Medical Commission's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021, for students who want to practise in India.

  • Qualify NEET before taking admission in a foreign medical course
  • Course duration of at least 54 months, taught entirely in English
  • A 12-month internship at the same foreign institution
  • Registration or licence to practise medicine in the country where you studied
  • After returning, clear the licensing examination the NMC prescribes and complete any internship it requires in India

This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice. Read the regulations and the latest notices on the NMC website and confirm your own eligibility.

Questions parents ask

How do I know if a foreign MBBS degree will be valid in India?

To practise in India, a foreign medical degree must meet the National Medical Commission’s Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021. These cover points such as minimum course length, an internship in the same institution, English as the medium of instruction and eligibility to practise in that country, so read the regulations and the latest notices on nmc.org.in before you commit.

Is NEET-UG required to study MBBS abroad?

The NMC states that Indian citizens and OCI candidates who want to obtain a primary medical qualification abroad must qualify NEET. Check the NMC website for the current conditions, including how long a NEET result remains valid.

Which countries do you advise on for MBBS?

We currently advise on MBBS programmes in Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and the Philippines. For each university, we encourage families to check the course structure against NMC rules before paying any fees.

Can you guarantee admission or that I will pass the licensing exam in India?

No. Admission decisions are made by universities, visas by the relevant authorities, and registration in India depends on meeting NMC requirements and passing the prescribed examination. We help you make an informed choice and prepare your documents carefully.

What should I check before paying any fees?

Ask for the official fee structure, course document and refund policy in writing, and make sure you receive an official receipt for every payment. Our article “MBBS abroad: a checklist for parents before you pay any fees” covers this in more detail.

How long is MBBS abroad?

The NMC regulations require a course of at least 54 months plus a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution. Course structures differ by country, so we show the course and internship months separately for every university.

Is the course taught in English?

The universities we advise on run English-medium medical programmes for international students. Local language classes are often included so you can talk to patients during clinical training.

How much does MBBS abroad cost in total?

Add up six years of tuition and hostel, food, visa, insurance, travel and exam costs. Our homepage and the MBBS Finder show tuition and hostel per university side by side, and we prepare a full cost sheet in your session.

What happens after I finish MBBS abroad?

To practise in India you must meet the NMC's requirements and pass the licensing examination it prescribes. We explain the current rules during counselling and point you to the latest notices on nmc.org.in.

Can parents join the counselling session?

Yes, and we encourage it. Families usually decide on MBBS together, so bring your questions about fees, safety, hostel and the course structure.
