About the university

The Australian National University (ANU) was set up by the Australian Parliament in 1946 as the country's national research university. It is in Canberra, the national capital, and is a member of the Group of Eight research universities. It is ranked 29th in the world by QS and 77th by Times Higher Education in 2027.

ANU is known for research, public policy, international relations, economics, science and computing. Its Crawford School of Public Policy and Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs are closely linked to government, and the School of Computing is one of the strongest in Australia. Classes are smaller than at many large city universities: THE puts its student–staff ratio at about 13 to 1.

Indian students look at ANU for its global reputation, research-led master's degrees in computing, machine learning, finance and engineering, and its automatic 20% International Achievement Award for strong applicants. ANU sets international fees by band, so most of its popular programmes have the same annual fee (A$57,640 in 2027).

Canberra is a planned city, calmer and greener than Sydney or Melbourne, and the campus is a short walk from the city centre. ANU runs 19 residences on or beside campus.

Undergraduate

  • ANU converts the CBSE (AISSCE) result to a selection rank using English or Hindi and your best four externally examined subjects, on grade points (A1 = 4, A2 = 3.5 and so on). An indicative score of 14.0 matches rank 80 and 15.5 matches rank 85.
  • The Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science ask for a selection rank of 80; the Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Honours) and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) ask for 85, with mathematics as a prerequisite.
  • The ISC has its own conversion page on the ANU website. Admission to some programmes is competitive, so meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place.
  • Apply online; the application fee is A$150. For Semester 1, 2027 applications close on 15 December 2026, and for Semester 2, 2027 on 15 May 2027 (Crawford School programmes close earlier).
