About the university

The University of Technology Sydney became a university in 1988. It is a large public university with more than 54,000 enrolments, about 15,000 of them international students, on one city campus at Broadway, Ultimo, in central Sydney.

UTS is known for practical, technology-focused teaching. Its strongest areas include information technology, engineering, data science, business, design, health and law. THE ranks its computer science 92nd in the world in its 2026 subject tables.

Indian students mainly look at its two-year Master of Information Technology, Master of Artificial Intelligence, Master of Data Science and Innovation and Master of Professional Engineering, and the 1.5-year business master's. Most postgraduate courses ask for IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in writing, and citizens of India are considered automatically for a 15% South Asia merit scholarship.

Studying in the city centre puts you close to transport and part-time work. Sydney is Australia's largest city and one of its most expensive, so plan your budget for rent carefully.
