About the university
Victoria University (VU) is a public university in Melbourne's west and city centre. Its earlier institutions date back to 1916 and it became a university in 1991. It is ranked in the 551–600 band by Times Higher Education for 2027.
VU is best known for the VU Block Model, where you study one or two subjects at a time in smaller classes instead of four at once. It is strong in sport and exercise science, health, IT, business and engineering, and works with more than 4,000 industry partners for placements.
Indian students look at VU for its fees, which sit below many Melbourne universities, and for its many start dates: most IT and business master's degrees start in February, April, July or September. Every eligible applicant to VU Melbourne is considered for a 10% to 30% first-year scholarship.
Footscray Park, home to IT and engineering, is two train stops from the city centre, and the City campus hosts business and the Master of Applied IT. VU also has campuses in Sydney and Brisbane with their own fees.

Admission requirements
Undergraduate
- Bachelor's degrees need a school qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12, such as Class 12 from a recognised Indian board.
- VU does not publish an India-specific Class 12 percentage on its entry page, so check the course page or ask VU before applying.
- Foundation and diploma pathways are available if you do not meet direct entry.
Postgraduate
- Master's degrees need an undergraduate qualification comparable to an Australian bachelor's degree; some, such as the Master of Applied IT, want a degree in a similar field.
- Past academic performance may be considered, and meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place.
- A related bachelor's degree can earn credit for some units.
- VU charges tuition per semester, paid before each semester starts.
Documents
- Valid passport
- Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets (bachelor's)
- Degree transcripts and certificate (master's)
- English test result
- Financial documents for the student visa
