About the university

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) is a public polytechnic in Edmonton, Alberta. It serves more than 40,000 students across four campuses in Edmonton and Spruce Grove and offers over 100 programmes, some of them available only at NAIT.

NAIT is known for hands-on technology, trades, business and health training. Its seven schools cover business, construction and building sciences, energy and natural resources, health and life sciences, manufacturing and automation, media and IT, and transportation. NAIT reports that 92% of full-time graduates are employed within nine months.

Indian students look at NAIT for its two-year engineering technology diplomas, business diplomas and the Bachelor of Business Administration, and for its new international entrance awards for degree students. Not every programme accepts international applicants, and some programmes are not PGWP-eligible, so check NAIT's international availability and PGWP pages before you apply.

Edmonton is Alberta's capital. NAIT points out that Alberta has no provincial sales tax and that housing is relatively affordable, but winters are very cold and heating costs can be high.

    • After admission, NAIT asks for a non-refundable tuition deposit, credited to your first-term tuition. NAIT does not extend tuition deadlines.

    Postgraduate

    • Post-diploma certificates such as Cybersecurity are designed for students who already hold a diploma or degree; check the programme's entrance requirements.
    • Since November 2024 most college-level programmes need an eligible field of study for a PGWP, and all applicants must meet a language requirement. NAIT keeps an FAQ and list of eligible programmes.

    • English test score (or proof of an exemption)

What IELTS score does NAIT need?

NAIT asks for IELTS Academic 6.0 in each section, or PTE 58, TOEFL iBT 70 or Duolingo 115. Business Administration may admit students provisionally with IELTS 5.5 in each section.

Does NAIT have scholarships for international students?

Yes, for degrees. International students starting the BBA from Fall 2027 can receive a CAD 10,000 entrance award, and those on the BTech pathway a CAD 10,000 award during the BTech, if they meet the conditions.

Are all NAIT programmes open to international students?

No. Some, such as Data Analytics, accept domestic applications only, and others are not currently accepting applications. Use NAIT's programme availability page for international applicants.

    Does NAIT have a residence?

NAIT's international housing page does not list an on-campus residence. Students rent in Edmonton or use homestay through Canada Homestay Network.
