About the university

Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) began in 1948 as the Ryerson Institute of Technology, became a university in 1993 and took its current name in 2022. It is a public university in the middle of downtown Toronto, known for career-focused degrees in engineering, business, computer science, media and design.

TMU says all of its full-time undergraduate programmes include experiential learning, and most engineering, science and business degrees have a 5-year co-op format with up to 16 or 20 months of paid work. Its faculties include the Ted Rogers School of Management, the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science and The Creative School for media and design.

Indian students mostly look at Computer Science, Computer and Electrical Engineering, and Business (Ted Rogers) degrees, as well as course-based MEng programmes. In 2026-27 international undergraduate fees (tuition plus ancillary fees) are about CAD 38,700 a year in Arts and Science and about CAD 44,500 to 44,700 in Business and Engineering.

The main campus is in the heart of downtown Toronto, Canada's largest city. Toronto offers many part-time jobs and internships but has high rents: TMU estimates CAD 15,000 to 21,000 or more for 12 months of off-campus rent.

Only if you also have a master's degree. Otherwise TMU asks for a 4-year bachelor's degree with at least a B average (65% or 8.0/10).

Yes. Ryerson University was renamed Toronto Metropolitan University in 2022. Older documents may still use the Ryerson name.
