About the university

The University of Calgary was founded in 1966 and is one of Canada's larger public research universities, with more than 38,000 students in 14 faculties. It is known for engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering, business at the Haskayne School of Business, and energy, medicine and computer science research.

UCalgary's international tuition is lower than at many Ontario and British Columbia universities. In 2026-27 the international rate is CAD 3,078.21 per 3-unit course in Arts, Science (including Computer Science) and Nursing, CAD 3,610.44 in Business and CAD 4,148.73 in Engineering. A full year is usually 10 courses.

For Indian students, the main draws are Engineering (including Software and Electrical Engineering, with a 12–16 month paid internship), Computer Science and Data Science, and course-based master's degrees such as the MEng and the Master of Data Science and Analytics. First-year students who apply directly from high school are guaranteed a residence place if they apply by 1 May.

Calgary is Alberta's largest city, close to the Rocky Mountains and Banff. It has a strong energy and technology job market, and Alberta has no provincial sales tax. Winters are cold but often sunny.
