About the university

The University of Manitoba (UM) was founded in 1877 and is a public research university in Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba. It has about 32,000 students, including more than 6,200 international students from 123 countries.

UM is known for agriculture and food science, engineering, health sciences and the I. H. Asper School of Business, which offers the MBA, Master of Finance and Master of Supply Chain Management and Logistics.

Indian students look at UM because tuition is lower than at many Ontario universities (about CAD 26,700–31,400 a year for business, science and engineering) and because Asper's master's programmes accept a three-year bachelor's degree.

Winnipeg is a mid-sized prairie city with low rents by Canadian standards and very cold winters. It has a large and growing Indian community.
