About the university
Chemnitz University of Technology (TU Chemnitz) is a public technical university in Saxony with over 10,000 students. Its roots go back to 1836, and today it covers engineering, computer science, natural sciences, economics, humanities and social sciences.
TU Chemnitz is best known for electrical engineering and microelectronics, mechanical engineering and production, materials and lightweight engineering, and computer science. It runs a wide set of English-taught master's, including Embedded Systems, Micro and Nano Systems, Information and Communication Systems, Web Engineering, Automotive Software Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing.
For Indian students, the appeal is simple: there are no tuition fees, English entry levels are moderate (IELTS 5.5 for B2 programmes) and living costs are low. Note that English-taught programmes ask for German at A1 when you apply and A2 by the end of the third semester.
Chemnitz is Saxony's third-largest city, an industrial centre with strong automotive and engineering employers, and about an hour from Dresden and Leipzig.
