About the university
Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences (HSHL) is a young public university of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia. It opened in 2009 with just over 80 students and has grown to about 4,900. It teaches on two newly built, barrier-free campuses in Hamm and Lippstadt.
HSHL focuses on engineering, computer science, business and psychology, with practical, small-group teaching. Programmes include a semester set aside for an internship or study abroad, and dual study options link students with regional companies.
For Indian students HSHL is a low-cost option: there is no tuition fee, and HSHL suggests budgeting about €850 a month to live. The choice of English-taught programmes is small, though. The ones we could confirm are a bachelor's in Electronic Engineering and a master's in Intercultural Business Psychology; HSHL also names Sustainable Materials Engineering as an English-taught master's.
Hamm and Lippstadt are smaller towns in Westphalia, usually cheaper to live in than Germany's big cities.

Admission requirements
Undergraduate
- International applicants apply online through uni-assist.
- An Indian Class 12 certificate on its own usually does not give direct entry to a German bachelor's; a Studienkolleg year is one alternative route, and HSHL Student Services can advise on others.
- Electronic Engineering has unrestricted admission and needs B2 English.
- Indian applicants need an APS certificate for the visa process; see our Germany guide.
Postgraduate
- Intercultural Business Psychology needs a related bachelor's of at least 210 ECTS, or a psychology or business psychology degree with set credits in psychology, methods and economics.
- With a 180 ECTS (three-year) degree you can make up the gap with HSHL bachelor modules, but this needs German at B2.
- Apply online during the application window; summer 2027 entry closes on 15 January 2027.
Documents
- Valid passport
- Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets
- Bachelor's degree certificate and transcripts (for master's)
