About the university
Leipzig University was founded in 1409. Today it has 14 faculties covering almost every field, including business and economics, mathematics and computer science, physics and earth system sciences, life sciences, medicine and veterinary medicine.
Most degrees are taught in German. For Indian graduates, the clearest English-taught options are the MSc Physics and MSc Mathematics, both taught fully in English with October and April starts, and the Joint International Master's in Sustainable Development with partner universities in Graz and Venice.
Leipzig charges no general tuition fee; students pay a semester contribution that includes the Deutschland-Semesterticket (€226.80 a semester from winter 2026/27, per the Studentenwerk Leipzig). DAAD's entry for the physics master's estimates living costs of about €900–1,000 a month.
International applicants apply through uni-assist. Non-EU deadlines are early: 31 May for the winter semester and 31 December for the summer semester.
