About the university

Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) is a public technical university of applied sciences in Bavaria. It has six faculties and campuses in Ingolstadt and Neuburg an der Donau, and runs research centres such as CARISSMA for vehicle safety and the AImotion institute for AI and mobility.

THI is known for automotive, mobility, AI and engineering programmes with a practical focus. It offers six English-taught bachelor's and sixteen English-taught master's, from Artificial Intelligence and International Automotive Engineering to Global Business.

Indian students look at THI for English-taught master's in AI, automotive and autonomous systems at a moderate cost: since summer 2026 non-EU students pay €1,200 per semester for a master's. Many master's last only three semesters and take students in both winter and summer.

Ingolstadt is a mid-sized city on the Danube in Bavaria, between Munich and Nuremberg. The main campus is in the city centre, a short walk from the old town and the river parks.

    Scholarships

      Admission requirements

      Undergraduate

      • Bachelor's programmes start in October only. Apply between spring and 15 July (THI lists 1 or 15 April to 15 July 2027 for winter 2027/28).
      • With an Indian Class 12 certificate, uni-assist checks your eligibility and converts your grades, which takes four to six weeks.
      • Selection looks at your overall grade and your marks in mathematics, sciences and computer science; a good SAT score helps for Computer Science and AI. Autonomous Vehicle Engineering invites applicants with 70 points or more to a short online interview.
      • Indian applicants need an APS certificate.

      Postgraduate

      • A related bachelor's degree. Many THI master's are built on 210 ECTS; with a 180-ECTS Indian degree you may need to prove the missing 30 ECTS (for example through internships or work experience). International Automotive Engineering and Sociotechnical Cybersecurity accept 180 ECTS.
      • Applicants with a foreign degree go through a selection process: a curriculum analysis, your grade and sometimes an online interview. AI Engineering of Autonomous Systems needs an overall grade of at least 2.0 on the German scale.
      • Indian applicants with engineering, commerce/economics or business bachelor's degrees must pass the Digital Master Test (dMAT, €150) for the APS certificate.
      • Apply through THI's PRIMUSS portal with a uni-assist VPD. Summer 2027: 15 October 2026 to 15 January 2027. Winter 2027/28: from April to 15 July 2027.

      Documents

      • Valid passport
      • APS certificate (and dMAT result where required)
      • uni-assist VPD for your foreign degree
      • Bachelor's degree certificate and transcripts (provisional documents accepted at application)
      • Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets
      • English certificate at B2, or proof that your degree was taught in English
      • CV, job references or internship proof where the programme asks for them

      Accommodation and living costs

Start looking for a room as soon as you are admitted; the Studentenwerk fee you pay each semester goes to the regional student services, which also run student housing. THI recommends budgeting at least €700–€900 a month for accommodation, health insurance, food, books and tuition.

      Campus and location

THI's main campus is on the Esplanade in the centre of Ingolstadt, a short walk from the old town, the Danube and the city parks. It opened in 1999 and was expanded with new lecture, lab and office buildings in 2014.

      • CARISSMA research and test centre for vehicle safety, with an open-air test area east of the city.
      • International Office, Language Centre and Doctoral School at Paradeplatz.
      • Neuburg an der Donau campus, reopened in 2021, home to the Faculty of Sustainable Infrastructure.
      • The brigk digital start-up centre is in the restored Kavalier Dalwigk next to campus.

      Careers and graduate outcomes

THI's programmes are practical and closely tied to the automotive and mobility industry in the Ingolstadt region. Autonomous Vehicle Engineering, for example, includes an internship in the fifth semester. The figures below are general rules, not a promise of a job.
