About the university

Mykolas Romeris University was founded in 1990 and took its present name in 2004, after Mykolas Römeris, a lawyer, judge and rector of the interwar University of Lithuania. It describes itself as Lithuania's largest university specialising in social sciences, with four faculties covering law, public governance and business, human and social studies, and public security (in Kaunas).

Law is MRU's flagship subject. It has appeared in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for Law (201st in 2024) and tops Lithuanian magazine rankings for master's studies in law. Its English-taught degrees also cover psychology, communication and digital marketing, business and start-ups, game development and digital media, cybersecurity management, finance and project management, so it suits students looking for social-science and creative-tech subjects rather than engineering.

The main campus is a modern building in the north of Vilnius, about 20–25 minutes from the city centre, with its own Student House (dormitory) about five minutes away. MRU also hosts a King Sejong Institute with free Korean language and culture classes, and its English for Specific Purposes and Korean Studies bachelor's is unusual in the region.

For Indian students MRU is one of the more affordable choices in the capital: €3,250 a year for business, communication and law bachelor's, €4,200 for psychology and digital-media bachelor's, and €3,518 to €4,690 for master's. Admission needs about 60% of the maximum grade and B2 English, which you can prove with MRU's free online test. Note that MRU limits non-EU applications to 200 per country and that India-specific tuition waivers are not offered.

Campus and location

The main campus at Ateities Street 20 is in the north of Vilnius, a 20–25 minute bus ride from the centre. Vilnius is Lithuania's capital and has most of the country's international companies, which helps law, business and communication students find internships.

  • One large modern building houses most faculties, the library and study spaces.
  • The Student House is about five minutes' walk from campus.
  • The Academy of Public Security is in Kaunas.
  • A King Sejong Institute on campus offers free Korean language and culture courses.
  • A free introductory week helps new international students settle in.
  • MRU students can travel in the Schengen area for short trips on their Lithuanian residence permit.

Careers and graduate outcomes

MRU's subjects lead mainly to jobs in law firms, public bodies, marketing, finance and international companies. Many of these roles in Lithuania expect Lithuanian, so plan to learn it if you want to stay. Students can work without a separate permit and graduates can stay up to about 15 months to look for work. MRU does not publish outcomes for international graduates, so the figures below are national.
