About the university
The University of Auckland was founded in 1883 and is New Zealand's largest and highest-ranked university. In 2027 it is 67th in the world in QS and =168th in Times Higher Education. It teaches across eight faculties, including business, engineering, science, medical and health sciences, law, arts, education and creative arts, and it leads the country in research funding.
The main City campus sits on the edge of Auckland's central business district, next to Albert Park, so students live and study in the heart of New Zealand's biggest city. Medical and health sciences are at Grafton, close to Auckland City Hospital, and engineering uses research facilities at Newmarket.
Auckland is a multicultural harbour city of about 1.8 million people and home to New Zealand's largest Indian community. It is the country's main business centre, which helps graduates looking for work in technology, finance, engineering and health. It is also New Zealand's most expensive city to live in.
For Indian students, the university's popular choices include the Master of Information Technology, Master of Data Science, Master of Engineering Studies and the 15-month Business Masters such as Business Analytics and Professional Accounting. A master's of at least 30 weeks in New Zealand can lead to a post-study work visa of up to three years.
