About the university
The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) was founded in 1971 by bringing together Madrid's higher technical schools, some of which are much older: the School of Civil Engineering dates from 1802, and teaching at most of the schools began in the 18th century.
UPM is a specialist technical university, with separate schools for telecommunications, computer science (informatics), industrial, aeronautical, civil, mining and agricultural engineering, and architecture. It is strongest in engineering, computing and architecture.
For Indian students the attraction is engineering and computing master's at public prices. In 2026/27 non-EU students pay €84.07 per ECTS credit for most master's, about €5,044 for a 60-credit year, and €154.80 per credit for profession-enabling master's such as Telecommunication Engineering. UPM lists 28 master's under its English filter, including Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, IoT and Biomedical Engineering.
Madrid is Spain's capital and its biggest market for tech and engineering jobs. UPM's schools are in different parts of Madrid, so check which school teaches your master's when you plan housing.

Admission requirements
Undergraduate
- UPM bachelor's degrees are taught mainly in Spanish, so this page focuses on master's.
- Bachelor's applicants with Indian Class 12 results need their school qualification accredited for Spanish university access before applying.
Postgraduate
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, computing or a related field that gives access to master's study in India.
- Each master's sets its own admission criteria and English level; profession-enabling master's such as Telecommunication Engineering expect a matching engineering bachelor's.
- Pre-enrol online through UPM's admissions procedures (trámites) page; places are limited (30–200 per master's).
- Non-EU students without Spanish residence pay the non-EU price per credit.
Documents
- Passport
- Bachelor's degree certificate and transcripts
- CV and motivation letter
- English certificate for English-taught master's (and Spanish for bilingual ones)
- Recommendation letters where the master's asks for them
