About the university

Leeds Beckett University traces its history to the Leeds Mechanics Institute of 1824. It became Leeds Polytechnic in 1970, a university in 1992 as Leeds Metropolitan University and took its current name in 2014.

Teaching is split between City Campus in the centre of Leeds and Headingley Campus at Beckett Park. The university is well known for sport (through the Carnegie School of Sport), business, law, computing and the built environment.

For Indian students the draw is a single, published postgraduate fee of £18,995 for most master's courses in 2027/28, an automatic £3,000 first-year scholarship for eligible Indian postgraduates and an IELTS requirement of 6.0 for most courses. The university says its law courses are now recognised by the Bar Council of India.

Leeds is one of the UK's largest student cities, with a busy centre, a big financial and digital sector and fast trains to London and Manchester.
