About the university
Teesside University opened in 1930 as Constantine College, became a polytechnic in 1969 and gained university status in 1992. It is a public university based on a town-centre campus in Middlesbrough, in north-east England, and also runs a small London campus at Here East in Stratford.
The university is known for career-focused teaching in computing, digital media, animation, engineering, business and health. It was named Times Higher Education University of the Year 2025, holds a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023, and has spent about £300 million on its campus in recent years.
For Indian students the draw is a flat international fee (£17,000 a year in 2026/27 for most bachelor's and one-year master's courses), three master's start dates (January, May and September) and a large South Asian community: the university says it recruited more than 2,200 students from South Asia in the last three years. It has a South Asia regional office in Gurgaon.
Middlesbrough is a compact town with low living costs compared with London and the south of England. The campus is a short walk from the town centre and the railway station.
