The University of Plymouth was founded in 1862 as the School of Navigation and now has more than 19,000 students. Its campus is in the centre of Plymouth, in the south-west of England.

Plymouth is known for marine and environmental research: it has won the Queen's Anniversary Prize three times, most recently for work on marine microplastics. It holds TEF Gold in all three categories (2023) and was named Community University of the Year 2027 by the Daily Mail University Guide.
